I'm Jay Arms, a musicologist, ethnomusicologist, and classical guitarist. Welcome to my professional website where you can learn more about my research and creative activities.

I currently teach at the University of Pittsburgh where I instruct the University Gamelan Ensemble and serve as Coordinator of Public Ethnomusicology. www.music.pitt.edu/people/jay-arms I received my Ph.D. in cultural musicology from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 2018. My interdisciplinary research explores American experimental music, especially its intersection with the international gamelan movement. My work blends the disciplines of musicology and ethnomusicology by combining ethnographic and archival research methodologies. As a musician I frequently perform as a classical guitarist and gamelan musician.
